Shopify Payments is the built-in gateway. It removes third-party transaction fees, keeps checkout on your domain and shows payouts inside your admin. Here is how to activate it correctly.

1

Open payment settings

Go to Settings, then Payments in your Shopify admin.

2

Activate Shopify Payments

Click Complete account setup and choose your business type: individual, sole trader or company.

3

Enter business and personal details

Provide your legal business name, address, tax details and the personal details of the account owner. These must match your official documents.

4

Add your banking details

Enter the business bank account that will receive payouts. The account currency should match your store currency to avoid conversion fees.

5

Set the customer statement name

Choose the name that appears on customer bank statements. An unrecognisable name is a leading cause of chargebacks.

6

Choose payout schedule and fraud settings

Select daily, weekly or monthly payouts, then review the fraud analysis and card verification settings.

7

Add supporting payment methods

Enable accelerated checkouts such as Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and add PayPal if your customers expect it.

8

Place a test order

Complete a real low-value order with your own card, then refund it. This proves the entire flow including notifications and payouts.

Note

Shopify Payments is not available in every country. If yours is unsupported, choose a third-party gateway and expect an additional transaction fee from Shopify.
