How to Improve Shopify Store Speed

Find what is actually slowing your store down and fix the causes that matter for Core Web Vitals.

Most slow Shopify stores are slow for three reasons: heavy images, too many apps and oversized hero sections. Measure first, then fix in that order.

1

Measure your baseline

Run your homepage and a product page through PageSpeed Insights and note Largest Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift and Interaction to Next Paint.

2

Fix your hero image

The hero is usually the LCP element. Export it at the size it displays, compress it, and avoid video backgrounds above the fold.

3

Compress and lazy-load the rest

Compress all product images and make sure below-the-fold sections load lazily. Reserve image dimensions to prevent layout shift.

4

Audit your apps

List every installed app, remove anything unused, and remember to clean up leftover embeds and snippets afterwards.

5

Trim the homepage

Cut sliders, pop-ups, chat widgets and third-party fonts you do not need. Each one costs load time.

6

Re-measure

Test again on mobile and compare against your baseline so you know which change helped.

MetricTarget
Largest Contentful PaintUnder 2.5 seconds
Cumulative Layout ShiftUnder 0.1
Interaction to Next PaintUnder 200 ms
