How to Remove Shopify Apps Properly

Uninstall Shopify apps and clean up the leftover code, blocks and scripts they leave behind.

Uninstalling an app does not always remove everything it added. Leftover snippets and embeds are a common cause of slow, broken-looking stores.

1

Note where the app appears

Before uninstalling, list the pages and sections where the app shows up so you know what to check afterwards.

2

Cancel the subscription and uninstall

Go to Apps, open the app, and choose Delete or Uninstall. This also stops billing.

3

Remove theme app embeds and blocks

In the theme editor open App embeds and turn off anything belonging to the removed app, and delete its app blocks from sections.

4

Check theme code for leftovers

Duplicate your theme first. Then in Edit code, search for the app name in theme.liquid and product templates and remove orphaned snippets.

5

Retest the store

Check the homepage, product page and cart on desktop and mobile, and confirm no console errors or empty placeholder blocks remain.

Watch out

Always duplicate your theme before editing code. It is your only easy way back.
