How to Create Navigation Menus in Shopify

Build a main menu, drop-downs and a footer menu that help shoppers find products in two clicks.

Beginner friendly

Navigation is the difference between a store that feels organised and one that feels like a maze. Aim to get any customer from the homepage to a relevant collection in two clicks.

1

Open Navigation

Go to Online Store, then Navigation. You will see your main menu and footer menu.

2

Add menu items

Click your main menu, then Add menu item. Name it as a customer would and link it to a collection, page, product or policy.

3

Create drop-downs

Drag an item slightly right underneath a parent item to nest it. Two levels is usually enough.

4

Build the footer menu

Put policies, contact, FAQ and shipping information in the footer where shoppers expect them.

5

Test on mobile

Open your store on a phone and tap through every menu item. Most traffic will use this version.

Use plain labels

Shop All beats Discover, and Walking Boots beats Collection 2. Clarity converts.
